If you ask J-Rod what his ultimate goal is, he will simply tell you, “To be the best.” The Norfolk State University alum began his entertainment career as an R&B singer. After winning at the world-famous, Apollo Theater, J-Rod decided to take a different route to success.
The Bronx, New York native started a widely popular radio show, “J-Rod in the Evening” in 2009. The show quickly became a favorite amongst college students and females 25+ in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk market. Known for his interactive segments and wittiness, J-Rod brought a different sound that was missing from most radio shows in the area. After two years and many awards and accolades including, “Trailblazer of the Year (Radio)”, he decided to take a short break from radio to further build his brand. He entered the “Face of Fox” competition where he placed 1st runner up over thousands of contestants. Also, during this time, J-Rod starred in and voiced various television and print commercials including a national campaign with Western Union.
In 2011, J-Rod decided to go back to radio with a new show, “PrimeTime Radio” and the “Voice Of The Streets” and has not looked back since. J-Rod has interviewed celebrities like Rick Ross, Wale, Pusha-T, Magoo, 2 Chainz, Saturday Night Live’s Jay Pharoah, and Faison Love, just to name a few. J-Rod has been featured in national urban blogs including “ThisIs50.com”, “sohh.com”, and “allhiphop.com”. He has also hosted the TV show, “BME Presents” seen in over 16 markets on the East Coast and has just wrapped in the stage play “Mama, I Want To Be Delivered.” J-Rod’s quest (to be the best) has only just begun!
